The Persians Again
Thoughts on Iran.I guess from the US perspective there are basically four important
points with the Iranian situation:1) It would probably be kind of bad for the US if Iran got nuclear
weapons, and really bad for the middle east, including Iran. At very
least, if they continue to attempt the acquisition, Israel is likely
to initiate military action.2) It would clearly be in the best interest of Iran, (and Russia and
China and Israel and anyone else remotely involved), if Iran instead
of building weapons worked on integrating themselves into the global
economy/community. Fighting is detrimental to a country's well-being.
It is in the best interest of the US to help them do so, although Iran
might not see it this way.3) Therefore all diplomacy should be aimed at helping Iran realize
that they can integrate themselves into the world community, that it
is in their best interest to do so, and we should help them do so, as
much as we can.I really think if we had employed a similar strategy with Iraq, we
wouldn't have needed to invade, and Iraq could have been well on their
way to democracy even with Saddam still in power. Too bad we didn't
try.

But would it have been a real democracy? I don't think most dictators would allow for something like that. And in Iran they didn't have a dictator and things still happen the way they are...(But I'm not too far into politics, so maybe I don't know all what I am saying; I gather the dust at the surface of headlines
).

Turning his country into a democracy would have been a significantly better alternative for Saddam than what did happen. There are many kinds of dictators, but the greatest are the ones who make their people free. There are plenty of reasons Saddam would have wanted to go along with it, it was just a matter of helping him realize it was in his best interest, and possible.

true true; but all the torture ><...there are some people that would rather die than to give up power they have...

Maybe he wouldn't have given up his power, but it would have been worth it to give him a chance.

True; honestly I think Bush just wanted to finish off what his pop started. But I guess he had to have backing, can't be a one man war, I suppose?
An attempt for redemption. It's hard to know anything given that we're fed from media that may or may not be partial.
I have noticed a cognitive difference in my abilities to have faster reflexes, better observations, and also better focus. My memory is also better, but still... 206 items is a lot!

lol true, true. Hopefully with your faster, cat-like reflexes, if someone drops a tray you can catch it!
