Love Story, Taylor Swift
There was always something I didn’t like about Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” song, but I couldn’t figure out why. It has nice music, she has a nice voice, and the story is fun and easy to follow. After a while I just gave up. Why was it?
Taylor Swift: Love Story After Kanye went insane, it reminded me to think about it again, showing that good things sometimes come from bad.
I think the problem is it’s written from the point of view of a girl, the entire thing. For an example, when Romeo proposes, he explains why by saying, “Marry me Juliet, I don’t want to be alone.”
I don’t think there are many guys who actually feel this way. A girl might, but a normal guy would say, “Marry me, You make me feel better than I possibly could have imagined” or “Marry me, you would be the perfect partner in my life” or even on occasion, “Marry me, you cook the best food ever!” or “Marry me, you are beautiful.” The illustrious Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice married Elizabeth because she inspired him to be a better person.
In fact, when I hear the guy saying, “I don’t want to be alone” it makes me feel like he is kind of wimpy. Do real men feel lonely sometimes? Sure, but he sees it as a temporary problem. He will be more likely to choose a wife based on how she fits into his life, who she is and who she wants to be, rather than whether she can make him not feel lonely. A dog or a bird can make you feel not lonely. And are excellent listeners.
That is why I don’t like the song. It makes me, as a man, feel like a wimp.
Isn’t he a fun friend? He will listen to you even when all the world has abandoned you. Not only because you feed him!

Ah, Mr. Darcy! ^^ That kind of goes along with the complementing rather than completing aspect.

I was a small kid then, scared of the dog myself. Haha. I had not yet learned of the wisdom of the little prince!

I am not sure what the difference is between ‘complimenting’ and ‘completing’. Practically speaking they seem the same to me. What is the difference?

I guess the way I would use it would differ in that “complete” might imply that a part is missing & would be missing without the person, while “complement” would be more along the line of bringing out the best of the person, and fitting well with that. I guess by definition they do mean the same thing though. hmm. I guess I associate one with a little more than the other?

That’s a really long comment. Yeah, I guess I didn’t quite get the lyrics right, but the song really is all about her, what she wants, what she thinks, what makes her happy. He doesn’t even know anything except that he loves her. That’s not very much.
I’m not into too much mush in songs, haha they make one feel either alone or depressed.. unless you can make up your own love song for the loved one. Anyways, Taylor’s song has a nice beat but you are right on the lyrics.. Its a girl’s whole view. maybe if the lyrics had been something like,”When I first saw you, you were on the side of OU and I was on Texas..” You know, make it a sporty song?.

My idea of a love song for guys is something like Blue October’s “Calling You” where I feel energized and happy and like I can take on the world, because there is a girl that loves me. Seems girls tend not to like that song as much, though.
Oh my gosh! You can ask anyone that knows me if Blue October isn’t just my ONE and ONLY favorites. I belong to Blue October. This is truly exciting to know. Wow, I am sorry but the mention of someone truly liking Blue October makes my day better than anything EVER. haha

I love this song! hmm i’ve never really thought about it from your point of view. well i guess that’s precisely why most of Taylor Swift’s fans are girls.
