Romantic Violence
Punching someone is a lot harder than it seems. A few weeks ago, I was with my sister and some of her friends. Somehow we got on the topic of slapping guys, and my sister's friend was talking about potentially slapping a guy.
Me: What about punching. If I asked you to punch me in the face, would you do it?
Friend (confidently): Of course.
Me (looking her in the eyes): Do it.
Friend (takes two steps back, eyes look down at the ground. Can't do it)
Sister (excited): Can I do it??
Me: Sure.
I see a fist coming at my face very quickly, then right at the last moment, I close my eyes. In my mind I was dreading the next month, healing from a black eye. But her fist stopped before hitting my face.
Sister: You didn't try to stop it! You would have let me hit you!
Me: Yeah
Sister (Punches me in the arm).
I'm not sure what I learned from this. It is not the kind of conversation I have every day. Punching someone is just as hard as getting punched, I guess?

Hmm! I suppose it depends on the people involved. I can't think of many people I know that I would punch right now; maybe people I don't know that have pre-conceptions about (i.e. if Hitler were alive I would happily punch him).
I did slap someone in 4th grade. I got slapped back. Teehee. It did feel pretty good then though, and we're still friends.
i think it's harder to punch or slap than to be punched/slapped. although it's still pretty hard to KNOW it's coming and not move away haha.
i was slapped once, and though i kind of reeled from the shock - i could never bring myself to do it for real. the shock of actually doing it would just last forever and ever. i don't like leaving bad marks on anyone

Yeah, you know yourself better than my sister's friend did. It takes courage: try to improve your courage.

I think it might be a problem of having brothers. You have a brother, so you have no problem slapping people. My sister has a brother, so she has no problem punching me (although she didn't want to hurt me too bad, for which I was thankful). My sister's friend does not have a brother. She is not used to it.

I only slapped someone once in my life that I can recollect (unless you count the slaps on the shoulder/arm, but those are friendly). My brother is younger so at that time I wouldn't have thought to hit him. Maybe now though, now that he can handle it
